DON ASLETT CLEANING MUSEUM
SPEAKING ON BUSINESS

This is Fred Ball, Zions Bank, speaking on business.

Pocatello will soon have a major new attraction that will generate worldwide attention, attract visitors to the community and aid in generating new development and upgrading of a neglected section of the city.

What’s the proposed attraction? Don Aslett’s Cleaning Museum. A cleaning museum? You’ve got to be kidding. Well, I must confess that was my initial reaction but after having the opportunity of visiting with Don, seeing his collection and then walking through the “under construction” facilities, I must admit Don’s enthusiasm and excitement over the project has me a strong believer and fan of the project.

You all know or have heard of Don Aslett. He started a small cleaning service as a young student at Idaho State University. That venture is now one of the very largest and admired cleaning organizations in the world. Don visited the Edison Museum and saw three old hand-pump vacuums. This spawned the idea that if there was a car museum, railroad museum, horse museum, mill museum and various museums representing a myriad of professions, why not a museum of the single most important profession in the world: CLEANING!

Don walked me through the offices of his Varsity Contractors offices in Pocatello and showed me hundreds of items he has gathered from throughout the world. Every nook, cranny and corridor of the office building displays his exciting collection. I saw very old, restored washing machines, old mangle irons, ancient brooms, brushes, sewing machines, scrub boards, toilets and every old item that was used to help maintain cleanliness. He has over 4,000 items for the museum and the collection is growing every day.

Don drove me to a large building in old-town Pocatello. There construction workers are feverously working to turn the old building into a beautiful home for the Clean Museum. It is a wonderful old building that has been underutilized for many years. Soon, it will beckon many visitors who will marvel at the eclectic, exciting and most interesting collection.

I’m Fred Ball, Zions Bank. I’m speaking on business.
